Systems Administrator


Ted Pella, Inc. is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator. This exciting role ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the computer systems that support the core organizational functions, including servers and networks. This will be achieved through monitoring, maintaining, supporting, optimizing and developing all the server systems in support of the environment at Ted Pella, Inc. This position reports to the IT Manager.

Summary of Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional user experiences through customer focused support.
  • Perform weekly off-hours maintenance of all server infrastructure and server side applications.
  • Employ systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with management, to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain all Microsoft Windows Servers including deployments, configuration changes of Active Directory, upgrades, service packs, and security updates for the entire company infrastructure including co-located offsite company web servers to protect data and maximize system stability.
  • Monitor, maintain and upgrade the Microsoft Windows file sharing environment and the Microsoft Exchange email environment.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain the health of our VMware vSphere environment.
  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize the health of our SAN environment.
  • Perform troubleshooting for complex hardware, software problems.
  • Monitor system capacity and performance through 24x7 system monitoring and alert notifications to ensure the stability of the production environment. Respond to any issues that affect production. Participate in afterhours technical support.
  • Provide escalation support to the desktop support team with any issues that are beyond their scope or abilities. Provide coverage when the Desktop Support Technician is out of the office.
  • Provide escalation support on our VoIP / Telecomm infrastructure.
  • Work closely with IT team and other strategic teams to provide support on projects as directed by the needs of the business.
  • Manage the company data retention environment using Veeam in a multi-tier strategy. Monitor and rotate the daily, weekly, and monthly backups. Troubleshoot and correct any failed jobs. Generate and retain backup reports for future use. Manage and follow the offsite backup procedures and protocols.
  • Work with the IT Manager and President on major Server Administration initiatives.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies for implementation that will assist the company to be more efficient.
  • Provide technical analysis for management when evaluating new processes/procedures.
  • Collaborate with company-approved vendors to develop viable solutions, equipment procurement, and trouble escalation if needed. Work with vendors and IT Manager to create service level agreements and the appropriate warranty service plans for hardware and software.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring and security equipment.
  • Perform regular security monitoring of server hardware/software to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Work with the web and programming departments to maintain customer facing web services.
  • Manage accounts with cellular service providers to provide mission critical phone/internet services to employees both international and domestic.
  • Provide training for IT team members on infrastructure and desktop configuration.
  • Continue to maintain and advance IT certifications to meet company requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • AA degree or higher in Information Technology or related field is desirable; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. BS degree is a plus.
  • 5 years of related IT experience, including desktop support, server administration, and/or network administration.
  • 1 year working in systems and/or network support and a mid-level knowledge of systems administration tools, functions and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently and work well on a team.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to prioritize, and execute tasks under pressure.
  • Good problem solving skills and good judgment.
  • Strong attention to detail, and high level of accuracy in work product.
  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • Must have strong attendance record and work ethic.

Hours:

Regular hours are Monday through Friday: 7:30am-4:00pm and/or as needed, except on Thursday the hours worked relate to weekly system maintenance and are typically worked at night, often through the night. Hours on Thursday and Friday will be adjusted accordingly around this weekly maintenance shift. Also, this position will require some weekend work during major project implementations of new servers and new operating systems and fixes for major failures.

Salary/Benefits:

The salary range is $67,600 - $94,640 per year plus an excellent benefit package. Competitive pay rate will be commensurate with experience. This position includes a generous medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) plan with Company match, paid vacation, sick, and holidays.
