Quality Control Specialist


Ted Pella, Inc. is seeking a candidate with reverse logistics and RMA experience for our Quality Control Specialist position. This exciting role generates and monitors quality control (QC) issues pertaining to all operations, implement corrective actions necessary to sustain quality assurance, and generates and fulfills general RMA return requests. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Quality Control Duties:

  • Create quality control documents for requests on reported issues for both internal and external customers.
  • Process the reverse logistics of quality control goods received.
  • Make proper adjustments, transfers, and conversions needed to initiate RTV and RMA modules. 
  • Communicate with suppliers to resolve reported quality control issues.
  • Monitor and create replacement purchase orders for quality control replacement items
  • Safeguard the quality of all raw materials, components, assemblies, finished products, and prevent any issues arising from defective third-party components.
  • Create best practice strategies and techniques for establishing reliable quality control inspections.
  • Advise and create procedures needed to improve quality control return operations.
  • Answer internal lead time requests involved with repairs, quality control, and RMAs.
  • Receive and organize physical quality control material within the department to completion of quality control report.
  • Create and monitor RTV module including paperwork such as tracking notes, and tracking updates to completion of quality control report.
  • File quality control reports within supplier folders upon completion.

RMA Duties:

  • Accept RMA requests from both international and domestic Customer Service groups by email and phone.
  • Contact customers regarding RMA requests.
  • Evaluate and fulfill stock count and quality to confirm RMA reports.
  • Issue RMA paperwork to customers.
  • Create, issue, and monitor call tags for returns and repairs both outbound and inbound.
  • Create Cross-Ship sales orders for replacement and repair sales orders.
  • Receive and organize physical RMA receipts within the receiving department.
  • Create quality control if required for third party defects.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding reported defects through the quality control process.
  • Expedite repair receipts to the proper Instrument Repair group.
  • Notify appropriate departments of RMA receipts.
  • Monitor return to vendor and open RMA reports.
  • Communicate with Production, Sales and Instrument repair teams on repair status to improve the overall process.
  • Communicate progress to customers throughout the RMA process for customer satisfaction, including quotes and updates that arise during the Product Repair process.
  • Create jobs required to close and ship repairs back to customers. 
  • File paperwork as needed.
  • Perform additional duties and/or tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • 2 years of related office, administrative and customer service experience is required.
  • Manufacturing and retail quality control (QC) experience is required.
  • Experience with MRP or ERP is required.
  • Prior purchasing experience is desirable, including entering and submitting PO information to outside vendors via email, fax and phone. 
  • High school diploma with some related college coursework; AA degree is desirable.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills. Ability to work well with people. Must be able to collaborate and interact successfully with customers, managers and co-workers.
  • Excellent computer knowledge, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet. Experience with business software programs preferred. Must type at least 45 wpm and 10-key by touch.
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy is required. Good problem solving skills and good judgment.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, learn new things quickly, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize responsibly.
  • Must have good math, reading, writing and spelling skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language, verbally and in writing.
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently, as well as work well on a team. Must be results-oriented with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Must have strong attendance record and work ethic, and maintain a positive attitude at all times.

Hours:

Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., may vary based on business needs.

Salary & Benefits:

$20.75 - $27.25 per hour plus an excellent benefit package. Pay rate will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include a generous medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plan, a 401(k) plan with Company match, paid vacation, sick leave, and 10 paid holidays.
