Purchasing Supervisor


Ted Pella, Inc. is seeking an experienced Purchasing Supervisor. This exciting role is responsible for supervising the daily operations and staff in the Purchasing Department. Additionally, the position will work with the Operations Manager to develop, analyze and implement strategic initiatives and training related to purchasing. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Buyers and support staff to ensure maximum productivity.
  • Review purchase orders completed by Buyers and support staff as necessary.
  • Evaluate and research supply sources and effectively and negotiate with vendors.
  • Build strong relationships with key vendors.
  • Evaluate, establish and implement minimums and maximums of inventory to establish and maintain adequate and reasonable inventory levels.
  • Manage and report on NPI process with Operations Manager and VP of Sales and Marketing.
  • Maintain levels of inventory to avoid stock outs while also working directly with purchasing team and suppliers to avoid inventory lapses due to supplier and manufacturer stock outs.
  • Analyze high values in retail inventory to keep at acceptable levels.
  • Create Spreadsheets for large asset purchases.
  • Remove and report superseded stock codes from the purchasing work sheets.
  • Evaluate and report on bought out and made in back orders to Purchasing team.
  • Maintain all Syspro update requests to item master.
  • Ensure material issues pertaining to service orders are resolved in a timely manner and forwarded to Accounting for billing.
  • Manage annual pricing corrections to maintain margins for bought out and made in products.
  • Implement cost savings strategies when available, sensible, and within established guidelines (i.e.; quantity purchases, combining compatible hazardous materials, blanket ordering).
  • Implement and improve department procedures for all functions in the purchasing department. Seek to add new ways to streamline department functions to reach company goals.
  • Find and create resources for inventory items. Seek, create and verify secondary resources to be utilized when primary source is unavailable.
  • Establish priorities, schedule and track work projects, provide guidance, and ensure the availability of resources.
  • Maintain communications and foster a cooperative and harmonious working climate conducive to maximize employee morale and productivity.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Organize, confirm, and enter yearly inventory count.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • AA degree in related field required; or the equivalent of college coursework and related experience. B.S. degree in business or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related purchasing experience is required in a manufacturing and/or production environment.
  • 3 years or more prior leadership experience is required. 3 years in a supervisory role is preferred.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills.
  • Ability to work well and collaborate with people including customers, vendors, co-workers and management.
  • Proven verbal skills and strong written communication skills in a business environment.
  • Excellent computer knowledge, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet. Must type at least 45 wpm and 10-key by touch.
  • Experience using a MRP or ERP system is required.
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy is required. Must have good problem solving skills and good judgment.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, learn new things quickly, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize responsibly.
  • Must have good math, reading, writing and spelling skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language, verbally and in writing.
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently, as well as work well on a team. Must be results-oriented with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Must have strong attendance record and work ethic, and maintain a positive attitude at all times.

Hours:

Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Salary/Benefits:

The hourly salary range is $25.80 - $36.20 per hour plus an excellent benefit package. Pay rate will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include a generous medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance plan along with optional voluntary benefits, a 401(k) plan with Company match, paid vacation, sick, and holidays.
