Information Technology Manager


Ted Pella, Inc. is seeking an Information Technology (IT) Manager to lead our IT team. This person will be responsible for all areas of the Information Technology Department with a wide range of dynamic responsibilities. This position will plan, establish and manage IT staff and projects and will serve as a liaison between the business and technical aspects of projects. This position reports to the President of the Company. This is an on-site position located in Redding, California.

IT Department Functions:

  • Maintain a positive user experience so company staff can effectively perform their job functions and customers are satisfied.
  • Provide development, support, administration, security and maintenance for applications, particularly our Syspro ERP system as well as our website, hardware, network, mobile and communication systems.
  • Ensure system integrity, security and reliability.
  • Tailor system configuration to meet business and user needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the entire computing hardware, network, application and system software infrastructure of the company, including technical support of the HTML/domain portion and the ecommerce functionality of the company web site. Hence the IT Manager is responsible for all computer and network hardware internal to the function of the company, as well as any purchased or custom software and associated files as well as the configuration of that hardware and software. This includes our Windows desktop and server hardware and software including our use of VMware virtualization; our Syspro ERP business system; our Cisco network hardware and iOS configuration; our MS SQL Server database software used for various purposes; and our web application and IIS software.
  • Develop and set expectations for IT Department staff; select, hire and train employees; plan, monitor and evaluate job performance; coach, counsel and discipline employees; develop personal growth opportunities.
  • Oversee all aspects of the IT Department including staff that are directly responsible for the infrastructure, as well as planning and projects for what will serve the Company staff, customers, and operations.
  • Oversee desktop support management issues to ensure Company staff have proper resources to perform their work, including replacement schedules for computers, hardware upgrades for servers, desktop hardware repairs and software upgrades, etc.
  • Oversee and provide project support to critical functions, including Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, Mobile Devices Monitoring and Standardization, Microsoft Licensing Audit, and Surveillance Monitoring.
  • Oversee application and database development and support.
  • Oversee web site development and support.
  • Oversee desktop and laptop acquisition, configuration, rollout and support.
  • Oversee all IT system administration and security.
  • Oversee all IT network development and support.
  • Report IT Department Statistics.
  • Manage IT projects to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope of project. Set and track project milestones; manage and account for unforeseen delays, then realign schedules and expectations as needed. Establish and implement project communication plans, providing status updates to affected staff and stakeholders. Provide direction and assistance when needed to IT team on projects, business objectives and pressing tasks as they are prioritized.
  • Hold weekly meetings with each IT staff member to monitor progress on current projects, address new priorities during the week, and discuss general company business that pertains to their job roles and the team as a whole.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise proposals for assigned projects including project objectives, technologies, systems, information specifications, timelines, funding, and staffing.
  • Work with IT vendors to promote a lasting relationship that helps the company receive preferential support and enhanced pricing on services and goods. Manage IT software resources according to changing company needs. Negotiate new contracts with vendors as needed: Phone, Internet, cell phones, etc. Responsible for service and maintenance contract extensions and/or renewals.
  • Provide 24x7x365 backup on-call/alert response support for IT environment and for user support issues that arise in the off hours and weekends.
  • Run periodic network vulnerability scans and perform minor penetration testing against the website and the company network to ensure there are no security holes that can be exploited.
  • Initiate, coordinate and maintain systems, policies and procedures.
  • Preserve assets by implementing, updating and testing disaster recovery plans, back-up procedures, system and information security and control structures.
  • Monitor industry trends for innovative approaches and opportunities to upgrade technologies, while taking a conservative approach and verifying that technology has proven itself before implementation.
  • Ensure professional and technical knowledge of IT Department with educational workshops and conferences, professional certifications, professional publications, personal networks and participating in professional societies.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.S. degree in Computer or Information Science-related studies; or the equivalent combination of education, certifications and related experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 7-10 years of related experience, including all aspects of IT as it relates to our environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated successful project management principles and experience, including use of MS Project or similar software.
  • Proficient in a Windows based desktop and server environment.
  • Experience in managing a Cisco network environment.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient with, or able to quickly become proficient with, a range of general and specialized applications, software, and hardware used in the organization and the industry.
  • Windows server administration experience preferred.
  • Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, including development, implementation and upgrades. Syspro experience is a plus.
  • Ability to motivate people to complete a project in a timely manner.
  • Thorough understanding of information technology procedures and practices include source code control.

Hours:

This is a full time exempt position located in Redding, CA. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30am-4:00pm, but it is anticipated additional hours outside regular business hours will be necessary at times to avoid impacting operations, conduct major system transitions, meet deadlines, address critical needs, or when useful to advance the goals of the position.
