Human Resources Manager


Ted Pella, Inc. designs, manufactures and sells instruments and supplies for those in science and industry who use microscopes in research and production. We are seeking a Human Resources Manager to oversee all Human Resources activities, functions and development. This position reports directly to the President of the Company. This person will work closely with leadership and provide guidance and counsel on a regular basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the Human Resources Department and its activities, functions, and development along with the assistance of a Sr. HR Specialist (“SHRS”) who is involved with significant aspects of the Human Resources tasks described below and others.
  • Conduct full-cycle recruiting for professional positions. Oversee local recruiting done by the SHRS for hourly employees.
  • Oversee and engage in new employee orientation and onboarding along with the SHRS.
  • Manage the proper and effective use of the HRMS including for timekeeping, processing payroll, maintaining employee information, pay rates, income and deductions, reporting features, etc.
  • Oversee timekeeping and payroll processing which is worked by the SHRS.
  • Maintain and enforce time off benefits and programs including vacation, sick, holidays, bereavement, and other applicable paid time off.
  • Work with managers and supervisors to ensure employee performance is properly managed. Assist leaders with career development, goal setting, reviews, promotions, guidance, issues, disciplinary action and separation as required.
  • Conduct benefit orientation through both annual company enrollment and individual enrollment, both with an online enrollment system and directly as needed.
  • Oversee the annual performance review process.
  • Develop and maintain accurate position descriptions and associated career paths.
  • Conduct market research to determine competitive pay rates and pay ranges for all positions.
  • Stay up-to-date on laws and legislation related to employment matters.
  • Work with President to develop and maintain company policies that reflect company values, comply with the laws and create a satisfying work environment.
  • Work with supervisors and managers to identify training, including leadership training, towards the needs of employees and assist in finding relevant training that aligns with job performance and development.
  • Establish good rapport and relations with all staff and leadership, maintaining open communications with staff on company related matters.
  • Coordinate employee gatherings and events.
  • Work with employees and SHRS when situations arise and leaves are needed, including PDL, FMLA, CFRA, Medical Leave, and Personal Leave. Track leaves and benefits.
  • Conduct, document, and follow through with workplace investigations upon employee complaint, at the level appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with SHRS on all required safety laws, develop and maintain safety plans and programs to ensure compliance, provide training as needed
  • Manage company workers compensation program. Document control process. Oversee the Document Control Process which is handled by the SHRS.
  • Other duties as they arise.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelors’ degree in Human Resources or closely related degree, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • SHRM-CP or SCP Certification or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 8 years of HR generalist experience required, including:
    • Full-cycle recruiting;
    • Onboarding;
    • Benefits management;
    • Compensation, wage and hour, payroll and HRMS management;
    • Leaves of absence management;
    • Performance management, training and development;
    • Employee career development and relations including promotions, disciplinary actions, and safety.
  • Must have previous management/leadership experience.
  • Must be able to keep confidentiality of Company and employee private, sensitive information.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, with an ability to establish and maintain relationships, and to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills are required, being able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibly.
  • Strong computing skills are required. Proficiency in MS Windows and MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required. Experience using Adobe Reader and Acrobat.
  • Excellent communication skills verbally and in writing are required, to collaborate and communicate with staff and all levels of management.
  • Strong math, spelling, grammar, reading and typing skills are required.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, as well as work well with others and on a team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are required.
  • Must be results-oriented, and of a self-starting nature, with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Excellent judgment, problem-solving skills.
  • Must have strong attendance and work ethic and maintain positive attitude.

Hours:

Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm; additional hours may be necessary as needed.

Salary/Benefits:

This is a full time exempt, in-person position. Competitive salary will be commensurate with experience. This position includes medical (100% company paid for employee coverage), dental (100% company paid for family coverage), vision (75% company paid for employee coverage), 401(k) plan with company match, paid vacation, sick, and holiday time.
