CNC Machinist / Programmer


Ted Pella, Inc. is seeking candidates for a full-time CNC Machinist. This person will produce machined parts by setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) and manual machines, maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic and complex set ups of machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation and conditional switches.
  • Produce machined components and products on CNC lathes, mills and saws, and manual machine shop equipment.
  • Monitor quality of products coming off machines.
  • Basic machine operation and use of measuring tools.
  • Reduce production failures and improve yields.
  • Maintain time standards, production schedule and quality.
  • Perform milling, turning, drilling, tapping, sawing and sanding tasks.
  • Assemble, repair, and fabricate metal parts.
  • Assist in organizing jigs and tooling boxes.
  • Apply safe manufacturing practice and use proper personal protective equipment e.g. safety glasses and hearing protection.
  • Assist with routine cleaning and preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Perform final operations including de-burring, cleaning and inspecting parts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • College coursework or trade school in machining, or the equivalent of on-the-job training, is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with CNC lathes, mills and saws, performing set-ups, and working with manual machine shop equipment.
  • Experience with HAAS machine preferred.
  • Must understand and be able to read G codes, M codes and make basic edits to accommodate speeds and feeds.
  • Able to measure parts and make cutter comp offset adjustments to make part to print.
  • Must be able to interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Must have very strong mechanical aptitude and be able to work with detailed small parts.
  • Must have the ability to read blue prints and use precise measuring tools.
  • Must have ability to read and follow work instructions and inspect work for quality control on each completed project.
  • Must understand and apply basic machining principles and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Must have a strong sense of safety and safe work practices.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills, must be able to get along with others easily.
  • Must have strong math, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar skills. Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Must have good computer skills, and ability to use Microsoft Windows 10 operating system.
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently, as well as work well on a team. Results-oriented with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Must be able to develop and acquire new skills quickly, work in a fast paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize responsibly.
  • Must have good problem solving skills and good judgment.
  • Must have strong attention to detail, and high level of accuracy in work product.
  • Must have strong attendance record and work ethic, and maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • Ability to conform to company policies and procedures.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to work, use vision to see, voice to communicate, and hearing to listen. Regularly required to bend, sit, reach, stoop, crouch, and communicate. This position will be regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise. Hearing protection is advised. Must be able to frequently lift, pull, push objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.

Hours:

Schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm and/or as needed. There are no regular weekend or evening shifts, but may happen when workload demands.

Pay and Benefits:

Hourly pay rate will be commensurate with experience, between $20-$28 per hour. This position includes a generous medical, dental and life insurance plan, a 401(k) plan with Company match, paid vacation, sick, and holidays.
