Vibratome 600 Tissue Chopper

To prepare two or three sections for an experiment, this instrument has several advantages. The tissue may be glued to the surface or put under fluid on filter paper. The blade advances straight down into the tissue and so exerts no lateral pressure on the tissue. Even retinal tissue and nerve bundles will not skitter sideways.
A micrometer advance sets section thickness. Sections may be cut as thin as 140 microns. The instrument is built with rigid supports so that a quick hand chop can cut reproducible sections. The micrometer advance may be positioned for left or right-handed operation. A rigid preset block stops blade descent at the acrylic surface. Standard single edged razor blades are used for cutting.
The spring loading is always up. The blade will not drop down unexpectedly. The operator must use a hand to chop the blade down. Only one person should be near the instrument in operation. The unused hand must be kept away from the blade or acrylic surface.
