Compression Mounting Materials

For use with hot embedding presses

Compression mounts, using a hot embedding press, are quick and easy to produce with a relatively short cycle time. The curing process only requires several minutes at the appropriate temperature. The cycle time also depends on the warm-up and cooling cycle, where manual systems tend to take longer than automated systems with water-cooled jackets. The compression mounting materials we offer are:

Phenolic granulate for low cost embeddings.
Glass filled Phenolic powders provide better edge retention.
Epoxy (glass filled)for higher hardness and excellent edge retention.
Diallyl Phthalates with high hardness and excellent edge retention.
Lucite (acrylic) transparent embedding material.

Glass Filled Phenolic Mounting Powders

Fina-Met is a very fine glass filled powder with superior adhesion qualities, excellent flow characteristics and tough grinding properties and is red in appearance. The Phenolic Short Glass Fill has coarser glass fibers and is blue in appearance. These products offer good hardness and good edge retention. The glass filled phenolic powders are molded at the same pressure as Bakelite.
